While the Nike Women's Marathon expo"tique" opened on Thursday, but I couldn't break away from work and kids sports until late Saturday afternoon. This was a mistake. Nothing could be done, but I feel like I missed out a little bit and I really should have gone with a friend/MRTT buddy.
I headed to Georgetown at 3pm on Saturday. It was a beautiful day and the world was out and about. I decided to drive down, but didn't make the decision to drive into Georgetown until when I got to Rosslyn. I should have parked there and then walked across the bridge. I pressed on however, and spent 30 minutes on M street regretting it. That was the worst of it. Or so I thought, until Io saw this.
Super crazy line. To be fair, the line moved along nicely, but was a bit shocking when you first tried to find the end. It was Disneyland long. Signs and all.
Once we entered the tent, there where tons of folks ready to assign bibs and give us our bags.
You then were supposed to head to the expo, which seemed to be a tent of 3-4 vendors. Nike, Bare Essentials, Luna and maybe 1 other. It was so crowded, it was hard to say. They had these 3 pin pads where you were supposed to enter the code you received at bib distribution and see if you won anything.
It was a fun idea. They had some nice walls and lots of places to take pictures. But none of the regular vendors that we in DC have become accustomed to. I can see where they wouldn't want direct competitors there, but there was no running supplies there at all. (that I saw)
I didn't make it to the Nike store where the runners name wall was located and apparently some race merchandise. I did manage to stop off at Hershey's to sneak a little pre-dinner ice cream before heading home. :) All in all, it was well run, if sparse and they were VERY lucky it wasn't raining. Folks were already not happy, and that would have charged up the negativity skyhigh.
I can't wait to tell you about the race! (Hint - the weather continued to grace us with pitch perfect temps!)
This blog is a way for me to set and work through personal and family goals. My focus right now is on health and personal finance. These mean many different things to many different people, but I will explore them from the from the perspective of a working mom.

Working on the Loose Ends
You all have been so patient with me through lice, car accidents, general stories about my kids and oftentimes boring runs. :) I am trying to have the same patience. I decided that this week would be the week to pull myself together from the mess that was the beginning of January and start February out fresh. It's not easy to recover from some things, they require phone calls, coordination and often time off of work. But forged ahead I did. I was feeling badly about the dying poinsettias and the wreath still on my door until I saw this.
(not her, the reindeer) :)
The car I knocked a good ding into is in the shop and hopefully will be done tomorrow. Today I called in reinforcements and had the lice lady come and treat my daughter and me. I have a contractor coming on Friday to look at a longstanding leak in the shower. I got back to boot camp today and have been keeping up with my running.
I won't dwell on the lice lady (as she called herself), but it was so nice to finally have someone to share the load. I have been the only one pulling and tugging and trying to get my daughter rid of all the little buggers. After having a breakdown on Sunday when I found more bugs, I decided to take the leap and open my wallet for some piece of mind. She gave me a prescription I am taking advantage of right now.
Today was a gorgeous day in VA. I missed it. :( Until the last hour when I managed to get out of the house.
I was glad we took some time, but bummed I missed the warmth of this rare winter day. I did get in a short run in my new Athleta Swagger skirt. I received a gift card for Christmas and had ordered a skirt online. The cut and color weren't what I expected and I really wanted to have another skirt. I headed over to Tysons to exchange it and see what they had in the store. I have to say I was kind of underwhelmed. I think I am so used to picking up workout clothes at Target or Ross. Anyways, I finally settled on the Swagger skirt. I wore it today for the first time and liked how it felt.
I can't explain my she held the camera crooked, but there you go.
So bugs out, new clothes in and a sunny day. One step in front of the other.

Jan 9, 2010 - status
I am beat, of course it is almost 11 pm, so that should be expected I imagine. Today was just a mismash for some reason. I ate too many nuts in my passes through the kitchen, but was determined to get my workout in since I took yesterday off. It was delayed until after the kids' bedtime because I actually left the house by myself this afternoon and went to the mall. Unheard of for a few reasons. One, it isn't in my nature to shop. I am not very good at it and I find I have a lot more money if I don't even try it, unless necessary. Why I was so moved today is a mystery and to make things even stranger I went to the "big" mall in the area. OMG, the traffic was so horrible. I kept thinking, how did I make it through Christmas with NO trips to the mall and now I am here? One garage had absolutely no parking and I was ready to bag the whole thing, when on my way out I decided to try one more place. Got into a space zippylike and hustled into Macy's. I had some sweaters to return, a giftcard to use up and determination. I went through the handbag section about 4 times (I told you I am not good at this) convinced I had missed something. Nothing was calling to me until I found this one bag. Of course no tag, no clue how much it was, although everything was about 50% off. Anyways, the original price was more then I have ever spent on a bag, but with all the returns, discounts (ALWAYS ask at check out if they have a coupon you can use, I got an extra 15%) it was only 30.00 for a 160.00 bag.
Anyways, today - 30 Day Shred day 6, Weight 164.5, eating was grazing like. 200 calories for breakfast, but more then made up for that in snacks. 40 minutes on the Wii. overall not too bad. May make up for the 2 glasses of wine last night.
